The Three-lined Snake, Atractus trilineatus. ABSTRACT: The Neotropical dipsadid snake genus Atractus contains more species than any other genus of serpents. The type species for the genus, Three-lined Snakes (Atractus trilineatus), occurs in northern South America, as well as in the islands of Trinidad and is known about the phylogenetic position of this fossorial snake. Suriname (sŏŏrĬnäm´, –năm´), officially Republic of Suriname, republic ( est. pop. ,), 63, sq mi (, sq km), NE South America, on the Atlantic of the Guiana region, it is separated from Brazil on the south by the Tumuc-Humac Mts., from Guyana on the west by the Corantijn (Courantyne or Corentyne) River, and from French Guiana on the east by the Maroni River.

of the species in the genus Atractus, most of which have restricted ranges and are therefore more sensitive to human disturbance. Most spe-cies of Atractus are poorly represented in mu-seum collections and, despite the efforts of Sav-age () and Hoogmoed (), who dealt with small geographic regions, a complete revision is still needed.
